A transformation that
has a clear plan

The modernisation at Václav Havel Airport Prague is not a one-off project, but a well-thought-out process spread over several years. Each step has its place, timing and clear purpose.

Three stages, one direction

The whole transformation is divided into three stages, which logically follow on from each other. The change is being implemented gradually and, thanks to this, the airport can operate continuously, although partial limitations for passengers and airport employees are unavoidable.

STAGE 1

EXPANDING TERMINAL CAPACITY

IMPROVED ACCESSIBILITY AND ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT

2025–2030

In the first phase, we are focusing on how to get to the airport more conveniently and faster. A direct railway connection from the centre of Prague will be built, and arrival by car and parking will be improved.

What will happen:

  • construction of a railway station at Terminal 2 and connection to the Prague–Kladno line
  • connection of the railway station to Terminal 1 via an underpass
  • new and modified access routes to the airport, including a flyover and arrival bridge
  • expansion of parking capacities and creation of a public transport terminal
  • improvements to orientation and pedestrian space at the airport site

Objective: Getting to the airport is simple, clear and stress-free

STAGE 2

PARKING BUILDINGS

INCREASED COMFORT AND FASTER HANDLING

2029–2033

Stage 2 will comprise a transformation of the terminals and passenger services. More space, a more user-friendly layout and modern technology will improve the smoothness of passenger handling and the overall travel experience.

What will happen:

  • expansion of Terminal 2 to include a new passenger handling area
  • building of a central security screening point for faster handling at Terminal 1
  • more space for passengers, new services, shops and lounges

Objective: Faster and more convenient handling, less waiting and a more pleasant airport environment

STAGE 3

SKYWALK

MODERNISATION OF RUNWAY SYSTEM

2030+

The final stage focuses on a more efficient runway system with two parallel runways. The aim is to improve safety, reduce the impact of traffic on the neighbourhood and allow for night curfew between 00:00 and 05:30.

What will happen:

  • change of the runway system to a parallel layout
  • closure of the existing runway 12/30 leading over Prague and Kladno
  • better distribution of air traffic
  • introduction of night curfew between 00:00 and 05:30

Objective: Less noise, greater consideration and sustainable operations

The Parallel Runway

WHAT IS ALREADY HAPPENING TODAY

The modernisation is already under way. Project preparation and the first concrete steps have started the airport’s transformation. It is not a distant vision, but a process that is already under way and proceeding according to a clear plan.
